I keep seeing these ads promoting historical Williamsburg, Virginia, while watching the Memorial Day edition of Kathie Lee and Hoda (don’t judge). And I’ve decided I’d really, really love to see the Visit Williamsburg site hacked and taken over by visuals of tatted up hipster guys in skinny jeans and blurbs about buffalo exchange and kickball leagues.

Just for a day or so, and then they can go back to blacksmiths and bonnets.

Ronny Beberman, a.k.a. the Seltzer Man, has been bringing the bubbly stuff to neighborhood stoops for four decades and, in the process, has become quite an iconic figure.

I was actually intrigued because at the time we were considering planning a bee-themed wedding. And I love their logo. After bothering an employee about the origins of their image branding, I felt obligated to buy something. I chose a cute round pastry called a ‘bee sting’—a yeast role with a honey glaze, filled with a vanilla custard, and covered in sliced almonds. (See above.)

Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a lot of tasty but dry pastries in my day. I carried this thing around all day and back to my friend’s apartment to split. It was CRAZY moist, and IMPOSSIBLY delicious. Fantastic.

But for a while it will be, and this is a great one. When I was in NY for classes, I spent one awesome Saturday at at McCarren Park Pool for the Renegade Craft Fair.

First of all, the McCarren Pool is about the coolest thing in the world. I mean who doesn’t want to have a craft show or watch old movies inside a giant drained swimming pool? The day of the show there was a sudden downpour, then when it stopped, the humidity was so thick it really felt like a swimming pool on a summer’s day—almost Sandlot style.

Anyway, the show was unebelievable. Jewelry, clothing, stuffed deer heads (made from fabric, not deer), all kinds of letterpress, great food, some booth where they were doing a project about trying new foods… it was great. Actually, the Brooklyn design in this blog’s icon came from the Renegade show.AND there was a human postcard vending machine.

The Brooklyn Renegade Show is next weekend. Check it out:

I even tried to plan my trip around their schedule, but to no avail. Next trip, for sure.

Sunday Suppers is a combination cooking class and dining experience. The small class cooks the meal and then serves it. The class part is taught by local chefs. But it’s always complete with these amazingly printed menus or tags and these beautiful favors. I don’t know who does their photography, but it’s always exquisite. (Update: It’s all by Karen Mordechai, the event coordinator…WOW!) AND the whole thing is held in a waterfront loft in (you guessed it) Brooklyn.

I kinda can’t believe I found these pictures on another blog, but aren’t they gorgeous? I was already planning to highlight Sunday Suppers. And this is so beautiful. The Sunday Suppers blog also just did a feature on Saipua.
